December 14, 1989 Dear Stew and Irene, A letter will follow shortly, but we were surprised and delighted to receive your wonderful gift of home-made fudge. Now that the package is opened and Anna has had a first taste, I'm afraid the mysterious 'gremlins' around here will reduce the quantity to near zero by the time Christmas arrives. We are returning the very unusual tin in which you shipped the fudge, not as a hint for any more, but so you may restore it to your stock of packaging or storage materials (when my mother cut off my oldest sister's long red curls when we were kids, my father stored them for years in just such a box!). In order to ballast the box for the return trip, we are including a loaf of our local famous Italian Bread from Perecca's bakery. It usually ships well. Jack Nicholson got addicted to this brand of bread when they were filming "Ironweed" in Albany, and he has some of it flown out to him periodically, and serves it only to his closest friends, he thinks it so delightful an eating experience.
