Sunday 2/26/84 9:30 PM. Dear Anna, Frank & Leo Was it only a week ago that we were all together? Seems much longer. It was good having everyone together, my only regret - as host & hostess you feel as if you hardly spent any time with any one person. I just got bits & pieces of conversations. I thank you for your note but am returning your check and hope you will understand. Both Joe & Vee offered me checks and I declined. With Roy out of work so much of the last year we really were hard pressed for extras. But God has been so good to us and saw us safely through it. Having a party for Gen was something we wanted to do - not just for Gen but a chance for all of you to enjoy Mom when she is at her best - which is, when she is with all of us. I was so happy that so many were able to make it. Wish Marilyn could have been there. Tell you what - if we can get a chance to make it your way - you can share bed & board with us. Ok. I really did enjoy the preparations, cooking etc. I love cooking and especially for large numbers. Im not much for the "horse's overies" I did most of the cooking ahead of time - evenings not spent with Gen. Roy would come into the kitchen and say "Can I help you in any way Ron?" When I would say no he would look & me & smile and say "you really are enjoying yourself, aren't you?" And I was!! We had a lovely note from Bobbys wife Kitty. They got home about 2AM. and said they talked & laughed all the way (about the gathering & jokes) and it helped make the trip seem shorter, Kitty said she felt very welcomed and at home and ease the minute she walked in the door. And she said we had a lovely home and family (all of us) and felt very lucky to marry into it. It would be nice to get together more often. Mom has been enjoying talking about her party "101 Birthday["]. She thought it was Alfred - not Bobby. She cant remember most of who was there but I keep filling her in. I read all the cards over & over to her and tho I cant remember who gave her what, I make it up as I go along and she seems satisfied. She loves the patchwork pillow from Vee & wants me to get 3 yards of material so she can make one. Also keeps hiding the pillow in a drawer cause she's afraid someone will swipe it. God love her. Well you guys- I have to knock it off - have to get notes out to Chris & Kathy. Again - We were so pleased that you came - maybe next time we'll be able to see you for longer. Love & prayers Ronnie & Roy. P.S. Vee called Wed. evening of this past week. She said Eileen Coakly had died on Tues. of stomach cancer. Jim Coakley went to sea with Bob & Roy. They just celebrated their 25th in August. I feel so bad for Jim, he was devoted to Eileen. |
