04/24/1980 Letter O'Neil, Rosemary
Shields, Frank

Thursday April 24th

Dear Frank -

No I haven't disappeared from the face of the earth! You remembe3r - I am the worst correspondent. I love to receive letters but hate to write them.

The past 4 months have been a bit trying. After my slide down the back stairs I wasn't able to do much. I only missed 1 day from work but I was a bit inconvenienced having only my left arm working properly. I could type fine but had to stand up to put paper into the typewriter. I was able to drive but had to reach thru the steering wheel to put the key into the ignition. Don't get me wrong - I'm not complaining - I could have ended up with a broken arm - hip - leg - etc. So - I do count my blessings.

So much for my state of being!

Needless to say my do-it-yourself project was not too successful. A right handed painter with only a left hand to work with doesn't progress too quickly. The young man from across the street came over to help. A job that should have been completed in just a few days took about 3 weeks. Michael is of the generation that doesn't like to take orders. He worked at his own pace - slow. I gave suggestions - he listened -then did what and how he wanted. The end of the story is painting is finished - floor is only thing left to do. This weekend I should have the new curtains made and hung then the guest room should be ready to receive a guest.

While I sat each evening with the heating pad on my shoulder, I was able to finish knitting a sweater for my nephew Tom. I also knitted a tennis sweater - size 6 - for my grand nephew. Now I am working on a baby sweater and bonnet for a friend to is going to Italy this summer to visit relatives - including a cousin who's wife is expecting their first baby. J is making the carriage robe to complete the set.

Just took a half hour leave to watch Julia Child make crepes.

Frank - I was so happy to hear that you and Anna were working things out. How about Betty - is she O.K?

I'm looking forward to having a visit from you real soon.

My oh my how I have rambled on - you must be tired trying to make head or tail out of this. Guess I had better sign off!

Love Rosemary.
