Dear Rosemary,

After more than twenty-five years this letter probably comes as an undeniable surprise. But I was in Lynn this past Saturday, visiting with some "in-laws" on my return from a week's vacation at Cape Cod with my two daughters. I checked the phone book and to my surprise, discovered you were still living at the same address.

I wanted to call you and say "hello", and see how you are, but I didn't have the courage (I told myself we had to hurry to get home, and didn't have the time). I think my real reason was that I didn't know how you might respond to my call, and I was fearful of a possible hostility in your answering.

That explains why I'm now writing this short letter to you - to see if you might have welcomed my call and the chance to renew old acquaintances for a short time.

If you choose not to respond to this letter I will certainly understand your feelings. But after such a long time I would welcome the chance to see and talk to you again if the opportunity should arise in the future. My memories of you have always been fond ones.
