Dear Mom,

I meant to write this letter a lot sooner, but I've been so rushed of late that I really didn't have a chance before now.

There isn't much to say in this letter, except that I hope you've already sent my laundry, 'cause I'll be needing it soon. And if you can, get that rubber stamp and sent it along quickly, too. I'm more or less lost without it.

I suppose you expected me to be home this weekend. I'm sorry, but I couldn't make it. Peg wrote 2 days ago & said she was going to Rye for the weekend. So that even if I had gotten home, I wouldn't have seen her. I suppose that if I had seen her, I wouldn't have seen much of you & the Chief - But that's the way the cards stack up now.

 I see by the letter from Dot that you sent me, that she expects to be getting a furlough in October. I can really feel how eagerly she's awaiting that day. Seems like a very long time since last I saw her. And from the looks of things I won't be seeing her for some time to come. But perhaps Joe will be able to get home for a few hours with her & you & the family when she gets in. At any rate, I hardly think that she'll have a lonely time. Mary Salerno will probably take the whole week off to visit her, & you may even have a few extra WACs around for the weekend.

Since Peggy is the only one who's written me lately, I have no news from others to offer you.

Mom, if you don't hear from me for a while, don't worry. I'll be pretty busy from here on in & there won't be much chance to write letters. But keep sending the mail to me - I'll be only to glad to get news of Joe & Dot & Jimmy & all the others.

Enclosed is a dollar for Betty's birthday. It isn't much, but I guess she'll understand. As for Dot - you'd better send her a card for me. I don't think I'll be able to buy one for her before it's too late. So try forging my signature for me, so Sis won't think I've forgotten her.

Well, that's all for the present. I won't be writing for a while, so let me have all the news. And don't forget to send my laundry & that rubber stamp today. 'Bye
