Friday 28 July 44 11AM Dear Frank: Long-time no see, here, or write, eh? But I have been busy. For some ungoldly reason, more & more women are still leaving home & mother to taste the joys (?) of A. life. They'll sure have a stomach-full before it's over. Keep wondering these days what you're doing & how long before they put you on the old paddle-boat, outward bound? Our luck can't hold out forever - if, as Mother has suspected (I'm not sure she's had confirmation from Wash DC yet, but is evidently awaiting it) you are in the South Pacific, before early September. I shall be fairly chagrined - for in that event, we have already had our last tete-a-tete, for the duration. We're horribly abused on the job here (!!) & can only leave once every 6 months. My next breather doesn't come up until Oct 1 - I suppose I could have Mother contact Roosey & have your excursion delayed but that just doesn't seem cricket. So I'll wait & we'll all get "stinkin from drinkin" when V day arrives. Have hated neglecting you, on one hand, but on the other knew there was really nothing new or interesting to depart. 3PM However, I now have a 3 day pass to St. Pete to talk about. BUT I may hold out, inasmuch as you can get the letter on it from Mom, I'm trying desperately to write this between interviews, AND they just 'honed me a wire from Mom saying Joe arrives home Sunday for 8 days minus travelling time - so am hoping that, at last, you'll get to see him yourself. Perhaps, by this reading, you've already fineagled some time. And, now I want you to report to me. How do you find him - what do you think of him etc. etc. ad infinitum. Am going to beg off to drop Mom a special delivery. Want her to be on the lookout for letter I sent this AM. I don't want him to think we do nothing but report on his doings & progress. My love to Peggy - have thought about her frequently of late - perhaps cause I owe her a line - but I think it goes deeper than that. Love & best wishes Dot. Please send me a long one - I miss your letters.
