Dear Mrs. Genevieve Shields:

We received your Christmas card and the prayer cards.  We appreciate them so much I read them over and over. I am giving the baby's mother the card for a girl. It was good to hear you arrived safe and we hope you will have a happy visit. We had some snow, and the promise of more. It sure does disruptes everything. I do hope our beautiful country gets back to what it used to be. I received a card from my nephew from Charlestown, S.C. and I'm going to write him and tell him his name (Murphy) was there over a hundred years ago, as his great grandfather was at Fort Sumpter at the start of the Civil War. He has recently retired from the U.S. Navy having served over 20 years on Polaris submarines. He is now an Inspector of Atomic subs at Charleston, Navy yard. He has to have a small Electronic bell, attached to him, wherever he goes, and when it sounds, he has to return to the Navy yard for any emergency. During his service the Navy assigned him to teach at a college in Idaho, and gave him permission to dispence with the Uniform. Well Gen I will close now and thank you once again for those prayer cards and Annie & I send our sincere appreciation for them. We remain, as ever yours.
