Fr Leo Martel | Self |
|
A Priest with a hobby. Father Leo Martel, S.S.E. Some men fish. Others golf. Some swim. Others scuba dive. A man's hobby may or may not be related to his major occupation. Father Leo Martel has a way of making even unrelated hobbies contribute to his main interest: priestly service to people. A native of Lynn, Massachusetts, Father is a priest-teacher by profession. But he has a yen now and then to get outdoors and split a log. Some men split logs to enjoy the heat of it as it burns in a fireplace. Others build a cabin or shed with the wood they cut down. But Father Martel thinks of making altars as his sledge hammer bands down again and again on the wedge which halves or quarters the logs he selects for their future sacred use. Father Leo has a way with wood as you can see on the following page where our artisan is depicted in various stages of alter-making from log splitting to finished product. He has a way with wood and one of its byproducts - books. But far more important, he has a winning way with people. His sense of humor makes him constantly in demand and a delight to be with. |
