Dear Mrs. Shields,

I was very pleased to get your lovely card. This year we sent very few cards - just relatives.

I am terribly sorry to hear about Joe. It makes my heart ache to know all he went through and then his nerves have to crack up. If he does, and I hope he does, get his medical discharge I hope he can come to see us. Perhaps a week up here in the country would do him good. We'll have to plan for it. I know it would do Mom & Dad a lot of good.

We are glad Christmas is over. We had dinner with some close friends.

My biggest thrill was my gift from Mom & Dad - a diamond solitaire - set in yellow gold. It's gorgeous.

I presume Christmas was hard for you too. What do you hear from your family? Joe didn't get home, did he?

I am going to enjoy this week's vacation. I really need a rest.

Weill you address the enclosed to Joe please?

We had quite an ice storm yesterday but the ice is gone today.

I hope you had an enjoyable Christmas and best wishes for the New Year.
