Monday Franklin Square House Dear Dot: I want to write a few lines tonight & I'm sorry that is all I'm going to have time for. Dot, your letter was so sweet & honest - I didn't mean to have you feel sorry for me. It was such a mess at the time & the thing that was so upper most in my mind - that I had to say something about it. When Lt. Gold left in such a hurry he brought a large, foot locker style, suitcase to the office & asked me to ship it for him. I couldn't lift the thing & a fellow that worked with/for the post chaplain & Charlotte Smith who was the Chaplains Ass't, said he would take it over to the Post Office in this staff car. I wrote to the people that it was being sent to & told them it was on the way. Well, it never got there & George was shipped & God knows what happened to it. So these people write to my C.O.!! asking that she investigate. Well, "what was in it," they asked - like they thought it held secret plans. "Why did I say I would ship it - did I care for him in that way?" Was I sure I gave the thing to George or was that just a story to clear myself. And as long as it was lost there would be that black mark against my record. It was cute[?] - just the night befor at a Co. meeting I received my Good Conduct Medal. Nobody has taken it away from me yet??? But when orders came from Boston to send me recruiting for the Trans. Corps only - in the lot SC - & my boss hit the ceiling & said he wouldn't release me, he was told that he had to - that I was the type of girl they needed to recruit New England girls. What the H- that is supposed to mean I don't know. So, Schiltz, want you should be seeing the "note book" I'm having - school!! with ten minute breaks - just like Washington - organization of the (you know what!) Remember this kind of stuff: But I get the idea on this crap - like this Thus the Boston Part broken down to the umph degree. They want 250 WAC's by Sept. We'll use station & job as [?] to get them. 13 girls going west - We have 4 new uniforms & the new WAC Dress. And we go to Hq's for classes in recruiting - public speaking & the like. We leave in the morning for Waterville Maine. I've got to pack yet tonight. I saw the circular the Med. Corps put out just this week & when I read Psyciatric social worker I wanted to wire you & ask what you were still sitting down there for. Honest I was going to tell you about it - afraid it had not been received by you yet. Dot - take it - you need a change. It's right up your alley. I guess all you kids could use a change - When a job gets old & no interest is present - they have to have something for a lift. Being women it's natural that they should give there life a little color with a good cat fight. How many times has it happened befor? Only this time you were involved - I wouldn't take it so bad. If it had not been you - it would have been some one else - any one of them. Dot, when I think of you still hanging around down there I wonder how you can stand it. It's not Army. It's so different away from there. After you are away for a while you will look back as I do & think. "Cripes how did I stand that old ladies' country club as long as I did." Some people & some things you will love as long as you live but Oglethorpe itself - never. Please see that you do get out & I know you, Schiltz. You'll do a D- good job on anything & who knows? You may find a place where they appreciate it. It looks to me the chance that should give you the rank you deserve. Remember me to Joe & your mother. Dot, I've got so much to say but I'm afraid I've got to close & start packing - it's getting late. Forgive m this time. [?] love & I ain't fretting, baby - Billie Dot, you're such a swell, pal you're number 1 on my list of friends. I'll never know another like my Schiltz. I wish I could take with you this minute. Dammit so much to say. Hope I get time this week.
