Dear Dot,

I'm being very nice and answering you promptly.

Yes, after all this time I no longer feel like a rookie. And the best thing I can say is that I'm darn glad I'm in. If I say it at this point I haven't much worry about the future.

The job has developed into a darn nice one. I am no longer a typist although I do some typing. I work with 66-1s. Actually it isn't classification at all. Of course Meelan (the Capt.) does classify but I memrely take orders from him and enjoy doing it. I have replaced a guy who was a staff sarge. But the Dept. is very different now than when Charlie was in it. Because AA is really contracting. Our section is much smaller now and when we move to Texas soon we will be cut to a minimum. Knowing the army a little I know that there isn't anything definite about my going.

No, I haven't found any "nice ones." All the guys in my office were grand but most of them were married except one who's an infant. I've gone to a few GI parties and enjoyed a couple of them but generally speaking they are brawls. I've gone out with several but have sworn off until & if something decent comes along. Like yourself I've often remarked what you wrote, "There must be decent ones." I'm very much inclined to think that the kind of guy you or I would be interested in is not the kind of GI who bothers with WACs. We've really got us a rep that's been won by a large part of our corps. It's queer to know how the grand gals you live with act with men. As for people to live with, they've been swell.

Faye is in England! Her last letter didn't sound too happy. She spoke of all the gals there (including herself[)] being very cynical. She doesn't seem to be too busy. But the job may develop. I'm most anxious to know how you make out on your request for social work.

Grand to have seen both of the boys! I just came back from furlo last week. I had 13 days plus 4 days extension. Not bad at all. I succeeded in getting plane rides part way going and coming. Only the weather prevented my flying all the way back. I enjoyed it very much - my first plane ride, you know.

I'll expect an earlier reply this time.
